@mindandchild: Parenting is tough, but it is easier if you and your partner are a team. What does this mean? That both parents are generally on the same page about parenting approaches, expectations for their children, and consequences when our children do not meet those expectations. You and your partner should discuss what family rules and agree to uphold them, and outline how you will respond. You should operate as a team. This means you support the other partner in front of your child and show that there is consistency – they should not be getting different answers from each parent. When you are parenting with another person, you will likely disagree about some things. That is okay! You each have something to bring to the table that can benefit your child. Take a minute to step aside and have an adult conversation about how you think it would be best to proceed. *IMPORTANT* We never want to subvert another parent’s authority in front of our children.
