Flat rate is the hustle. I've been flat rate for 25 years. It is intense game that keeps me pushing. More cars I repair the more I make.

Flat rate is fine for lower/mid Lvl techs. Needs to be high salary for senior masters who do 95% diag or problem cars.

$25 an hour hourly? I’m assuming that’s just a example. A master tech making $30-$40 flat rate who turns 300-400 a month will never go hourly.

Customers usually get taken care of more at hourly. The techs aren't rushing to get it done.

I’m a tech and I’m scared of this! B techs can do 50-55 in 40. A techs are doing 55+ in 40. If u can’t cut flat rate ur in the wrong career

Where I work at we get paid hourly ,but they time us everyjob we do. We be logged in on work or our direct labor drop

look at private diesel semi truck fleet technicians. they have been paid hourly for decades with good productivity

It is all about work ethic, if you find someone motivated for that pay rate, they will work hard as if they make flat rate

I could also see productivity going down from skilled techs due to losing money. Two of mine score about 50+ a week, I'm sure they would be furious

if hourly as a main shop tech was between 35-50 with no over time available I think it'd work great, if the tech does slack off hire worthy folks
