@leadershipmel: How do I create a healthy relationship with someone I don’t trust? That is the client topic I want to share with you this week. This comes up for all of us. We have to work closely with someone who does things that make our antenaes go up. We don’t feel comfortable trusting them. And that’s totally OK. You don’t have to trust everyone. But as a leader, you DO need to find a way to create effective results with ANYone. Here are three ways my Client and I discussed how she could be a leader even when she felt like she couldn’t trust someone. #1: CHECK YOURSELF Is it you or them? Just because you THINK they’re being untrustworthy doesn’t always mean they are. It could just be your interpretation… which you’re allowed to have. Just remember your interpretation may not be the ONLY way to interpret the situation. So what I often recommend is you consider… #2: ADDRESS IT HEAD ON If someone does something you deem “Untrustworthy”, just connect with them and ask them WHY? Remember the other person is a human too… and they might be acting out because of their own insecurities. You can be empathetic and just ask “what is it that makes you say those things about me behind my back?” or “why didn’t you come to me with your concerns”… just directly address whatever the situation is. #3: ROLE MODEL TRUSTWORTHINESS I know you’re thinking “I already AM trustworthy, it’s not me, it’s them!” But one of the things my client uncovered was because she was thinking her colleague was untrustworthy, she wasn’t being honest with them about how she felt AND she was chatting with her boss about it behind their back. Remember - you have a role to play in the relationships you have at work. #leaders#leadershiptoka#corporatetoks#leadershipd#bealeaders#leadershipskillsi#executivecoacha#corporatelifes#successincorporatefe
