Brain cancer. How the hell do you wrap your head around a doctor explaining to you that your child has brain cancer? How did this happen to my perfectly healthy, beautiful daughter? She hardly ever had a cold! She had her 4 year old check up one month prior to diagnosis and was the epitome of perfect health! Met all her milestones! What the hell happened?! You hear and read sad stories of kids with cancer every now and then. I used to follow several stories that came across my feed, hoping that their child got their miracle of a cure. And so grateful and humbled that my child was healthy and happy. And then, just like that, it was now us. We were the sad story people stumbled upon. We were the ones everyone hoped and prayed for and thanked the heavens that it’s not their child. So grateful their child is healthy and happy. You see, with cancer - no one is safe. Your world too could be flipped upside down in a heartbeat and before you know it - you are cast in a bottomless pit of every horrible emotion you could possibly imagine. And the sad part is - once you enter this new world - you realize fast how awful and outdated the treatments are. You get angry that your child’s life - if saved - will forever be impaired. That our children truly are not a priority when it comes to funding for better and safer treatments. So now we join the long list of parents before us, fighting for awareness and begging for a change. And hoping to make enough impact with the masses that this truly could happen to ANYONE. Childhood cancer is not rare and brain tumors are the deadliest and least funded. We need better treatments yesterday!! And we need loud voices to help get that message out loud and clear! Because God forbid your child is next, and will also have to take decades old toxic chemicals to try and save their life. Our kids deserve more! We don’t give a shit about Neptune, black holes or what is going on in space. Why isn’t NASA raising money with lemonade stands for future space exploration and give the billions funded by the government to finding cures and treatments for childhood cancer!?
