![Sindh’s history didn’t begin in 1947. Some claim that Sindh could not have existed in the time of Adam (AS), but we don’t need to rely on that claim to understand how ancient Sindh really is. Thousands of years ago, the Indus Valley Civilization flourished along the Indus River, including present-day Sindh. Centuries later, Al-Sind was already known to Arab traders and geographers, and Islam reached Sindh through trade and later conquest. And what about Karachi? Karachi was historically part of Sindh long before Pakistan. After Sindh became a separate province from the Bombay Presidency in 1936, Karachi became its capital. In 1947, after Pakistan was created, Karachi became the first capital of Pakistan. Sindhi leaders including G. M. Syed and Sir Abdullah Haroon were also important figures in the political history surrounding Pakistan. 1947 created Pakistan — it did not create Sindh.
