@beautyinthesea: Galapagos penguins are one of the smallest penguin species in the world and are endemic to the Galapagos Islands. This is the only penguin species found north of the equator. Penguins are threatened by pollution, bycatch and climate change. In 1982, there was a particularly strong El Niño event that caused 77% of the population to die of starvation, and the population has been recovering ever since. The current population is estimated to only be around 2,000. Luckily, the entire population is protected within the Galapagos National Park and Galapagos Marine Reserve. 🎥: YouTube - earthly4562 #beautyinthesea #galapagos #penguin #galapagospenguins #galapagosislands #penguins #wildlifephotography #marinelifephotography #wildlifeconservation #oceanconservation
