@alaskaalaskaalaska: In the lead up to last year’s DQOY Pageant, there was a shooting next door to the theatre and devastatingly, somebody lost their life. It additionally risked endangering the lives of our performers, dancers and attendees. We created this pageant to showcase and share our love of exquisite drag, but with the imminent threat of danger in our country due to a lack of gun laws, we had to consider calling off the pageant. We should never have to ask questions like “What kind of shooting?” Tighter legislation should be introduced to eliminate regular occurrences of violence and trepidation.
