I just connect them in any order. Nothing bad has ever happened and the cars that had a battery issue started running immediately.

I like the advice but jump pack's are small and cheap as anything these days and so handy to leave in the glove box

Now a days they suggest to connect 1 negative lead to a car frame. Because of the electronics you want to normalize through ground.
