@__oratilwe: Today was the first day of Block 3/6 📚,and I was reflecting on the year so far. As a young black girl who has always dreamt of becoming a Dr,my dream career isn’t all that glitz and glamor I might have thought it to be. In the past 2 blocks,we have had approximately 180 lectures,majority of which have pictures of how patients may present clinically,however I only saw less than 10 pictures of black patients. Even in medicine,representation is not on a balanced scale and I believe that is a violation of one of the most pivotal human rights . Given that more than 80% of the citizens in this country access healthcare services in the public sector and majority of them are black,why is there such little inclusivity in the medical curriculum? And this is why the greatest healthcare workers are advocates for their patients.
