‘It had been a long day. 10 hours of blue water hunting without barely seeing a fish; a storm just passed and the wahoos weren’t around. I turned to Nick, the guide, to tell him I had enough and that we should call it a day. He told me we had 5 pieces of chum left so we thought we might as well throw them in before getting back on the boat. As I watch the pieces of squid sinking, my mind was drifting away to what was I going to cook that night (not fish clearly!). While the last piece disappeared in the murk, a big shadow caught my attention. I heard Nick screaming MARLIN!!! I froze for a couple of seconds before I came back to my senses, and took a drop towards the giant fish. I did not want to screw this up. A bad shot was out of the question. Injuring the fish for no reason or losing my gear did not seem appealing to me. As I approached it, the fish swam away. I stop moving for a few seconds to see if he would turn around. And he did. The marlin was now broadside to me, only a few feet away. I went for a mid body shot, judging it would be my best bet. I swam back to the surface as the fish took off, only to remember that I had only one buoy. I screamed at the boat to get me a back up one asap, hung on to my buoy and flew away from the boat, dragged by this gigantic beast. It took me over 6 times to pull the marlin all the way to the surface to only see it dive down again as soon as he saw me (can’t blame him really!). I was also scared, it could spear me back at any time. But then I finally was able to put a killing second shot in it. Holding it by the bill waiting for the boat, I couldn’t believe it. This is by far the biggest fish I ever shot. I didn’t speak the whole ride home, in shock. At the dock, I decided to share most of the fish with local families, but to keep a bit to share back home (in Florida).’ - @valentinethomas Aclassic - Continued in comments! #fishing #fish #fishinglife #bluewater #nature #spearfishing_international #spearfishing_reviews #fisherman #fishingtrip #spearfishing #fishingaddict #bigfish #saltwaterfishing #fishingdaily #fishon #sea #wow #diehard #spearfishing_worldwide
