@deplorableway: The Franco-German Armistice of June 22, 1940 split France into two zones, one which was under German military ()ccupat|()n (Free France) and one which was to be kept by the French with full nominal sovereignty (Vichy France). Vichy France (1940-1944) was a co||aborat|on|st reg|/\/\e which was under a unitary author|tar|an d|ctatorsh|p, but it never joined the Axis powers despite being pressured to do so. Free France (1940-1944) was a provisional republic and made the claim that it was the legitimate government of France following the collapse of the Third Republic (1870-1940) after the Battle of France (May 10th to June 25th, 1940). Free France was an Allied nation which fought the Axis with the FFL (Forces françaises libres), and Vichy France was deemed as an illegal government which had assumed power via an unconstitutional coup d'état, being then controlled by traitors. From June 6th, 1944 to May 8th, 1945 France was liberated by Allied forces, resulting in the remaining Vichy government’s (as Vichy France itself collapsed on August 9th, 1944) retreat to Germany (the Sigmaringen enclave) in order to avoid being captured until it dissolved on April 22nd, 1945. #countryhumans #countryhumansshitpost #History #countryhumansbritain #countryhumansuk #countryhumansfrance
