Think Ooni pizza ovens are just for pizza? Think again! ad. Let’s make a delicious roasted summer veggie sandwich from start to finish using  @Ooni Pizza Ovens Karu 12G Multi-Fuel Pizza Oven.  You can use wood, charcoal or gas for this clever, portable pizza oven. I’ve opted to use the Karu 12G Gas Burner as it’s a little easier to control when using lower temperatures for baking bread. For pizza, I love to use wood!  BAKE THE BREAD: Follow my recipe for Soft Sandwich Rolls. Once the dough has proofed, dust your work surface and the top of the dough with plenty of semolina. Divide into three long sandwich rolls. Cover and let the rolls proof while you preheat your pizza oven. Set the gas to medium low - the temperature gauge on the oven should be in the middle to top of the yellow zone or the stone temperature should read 230C/445F if using the Ooni Digital Infrared Thermometer. Using the peel, launch the dough into the pizza oven. Bake for 10-12 minutes and then rotate the bread. Bake for another 5 minutes and then flip the bread over for the final 5 minutes to ensure both sides of the rolls are browned evenly. Remove and set on a cooling rack. ROAST THE VEGGIES: As the bread is baking, prep the veggies. 1 Romano red pepper, halved and deseeded 1 large red onion, sliced into rings 1 medium zucchini (courgette) sliced into thin strips 6 asparagus spears Extra virgin olive oil Flaky sea salt Pepper Add some olive oil onto the Ooni Dual Sided Grizzler Pan, arrange the veggies into an even layer, drizzle with with more olive oil and sprinkle with flaky sea salt. Bake for 8-10 minutes. ASSEMBLE + TOAST THE SANDWICH 5 Tablespoons fresh basil pesto Lots of mozzarella cheese Spread the roll with pesto and pile on all the veggies. Sprinkle plenty of mozzarella cheese over both sides. I placed mine in the Ooni Detroit Pizza Pan (medium) and baked for 3-4 minutes until the cheese was melted and bubbly. Finish by spooning over some diced cherry tomatoes (marinated in olive oil, balsamic, basil, garlic, salt and pepper). Cut in half and enjoy!  Save this recipe to try it for yourself!
