Context is important. For example: “Thanks for cleaning the bathroom, but you didn’t vacuum.” Makes you feel unappreciated.

It's also a standard in DBT, using "and" to allow 2 truths to exist at once. Changing my speech to get rid of "but" was actually helpful. 🤷
