@aclotheshorse: I capture the castle 🏰 Have you heard the term “folly” before? A folly is a decorative building or structure built entirely for the purpose of adding aesthetic beauty to an area. They were popular in the 1800s as a way to add charm and whimsy to gardens and the grounds of grand estates. Everyone wanted their land to look rustic and false ruins and old-looking castles added mystery and glamour. They made gardens look like scenes from Romantic poems and paintings and made new estates look more established. Take these gate lodges for example, they were built in the 1800s but are meant to look older and never really served a purpose—there were no battles waged here and the bridge doesn’t span a moat.
