Thank you @Matt Haig for inspiring this post. Things I’ve learned the hard way as a Pilates instructor: 📣 You will face criticism no matter who you are and what you do. Apply what’s useful, stay true to yourself, and discard the rest. 📣 Whether consciously or not, many people will correlate the effectiveness of a workout with the appearance of the instructor, and will laugh at you when you say that health extends beyond weight and (un)attractiveness. You are more than your body. 📣 Bashing other people or other forms of exercise to your clients only makes you look rude, close-minded, and immature. Stay calm and focused on helping the people you’re present with. 📣 You will fail every day. Lean into the discomfort. The hardest classes and most difficult clients are the best opportunities to learn and grow. How much do you learn as an instructor when the class is easy? Very little.
