Taps hits different when you have a folded flag prominently displayed in your living room. Dad was a US Navy World War II and went home to be with Mom the night of February 9, 1998. His 3+ years battle with Parkinsons was finally over. My sister was next of kin so she was presented the flag from the AMVETS on behalf of a grateful nation. She immediately gave it to me (I'm the youngest of us 4) with a warm tight hug. I was the one who quietly spoke up when meeting with the funeral director and said Dad's only concern was that he get a decent burial. He didnt say what that meant and I never asked. I didn't have to. I knew. Flag draped casket for visitation and funeral, 3 gun salute, and Taps at the cemetery was my way of saying Thank You Dad for your service to in the Navy. It was also my way of saying "I understood the assignment". All I ask from people is that you stand, take off your hats, and be quiet and reverent when Taps is played. I do every time and it warms my heart to see others doing the same. Thanks for listening and understanding.
