@screenwritinginla: At the core, what Lynch seems to care about most when giving “advice” (yeah, I’ve watched about all his interviews) is to let go of expectations. The same goes for his philosophy of meditation. Expectations are what always lead to disappointment. But there’s a difference between 1) having low standards, using the “no expectations” thought process as an excuse to NOT do, and 2) practicing having no expectations from a creative and spiritual perspective. It’s impossible to fully not have expectations, but the point of practicing it is to allow yourself to get more connected to the true fulfillment of doing the work as a means of expression, exploration, questioning—whatever it means for you. Making the process, without expectations, the priority above all else is what seems to lead to more consistent fulfillment. Hope this post helps.
