Replicating Harry’s return journey to Liverpool from visiting his extended family in Sheffield at this moment. According to the official web blog of Sheffield City Archives (Sheffield Libraries), though not a native of Sheffield, it’s been a practice for Henry Wilde and his family to make trips to Sheffield for worship since his parents relocated in Walton, Liverpool. His parents were buried in the churchyard of Loxley United Reformed Church (also known as Loxley Congregational Church), the church for the Wilde family and where Harry was baptised, after their deaths in 1872 and 1881 respectively. I’m not a history student (I do maths & philosophy) but I’m much interested in this side of Wilde, since this was a very surprising notable Titanic connection given that Sheffield was much inland (though there was indeed a victim, a Turkish Bath attendant named Walter Ennis, who was a Sheffielder, and 2 Californian crewmen were Sheffielders as well). Harry had an architect uncle whose name was George Arnold (1841-1914), who was a few years younger his late father, and I suspected that he was the missing father figure in Harry’s life and the person whom Harry named his second son after. Though far removed from seaside and surrounded by mountains, it’s surprisingly easy to go to Liverpool from Sheffield, as there is a direct railroad which passes through Manchester. Nowadays, it only takes approximately 2 hours of train to Liverpool Lime Street from Sheffield; in the days of Henry Wilde, it would probably have been longer—but still a short train journey comparing to Liverpool to Southampton. So, it is not surprising to see Harry and his family attending sunday servives in their family church in Loxley (*still figuring out how he would have travelled to Loxley though). - The last parts of “Harry’s Titanic” which conerns of Henry Wilde’s activities during the sinking will be coming soon (edit: I collapsed when I’m back home) #titanic #titanicmonth #rmstitanic #titanichistory #history #historytok #historytiktok #historybuff #historytime #historyfyp #historyfypシ #historyforyou #titanicofficers #henrywilde #henrytinglewilde #foryou #fyp #fypシ
