@eteportraits: ‘Helix’ was my first self portrait in 4 years. It’s been 18 months since I drew this line on the drawing. Drawing yourself is often not the most pleasant of experiences as an artist - especially a hyperrealist - exposing every imperfection, pore, wrinkle. Then there’s putting the work out there into the world for all to see, and some to criticise. Difficult to take when it’s your own face! My eyes are still a bit wonky, and I have acquired even MORE wrinkles since this drawing was finished, possibly a grey hair or two as well. For me it feels important to do these every now and again - a more personal expression of where my art is taking me, married with a document of my ever changing face. So, today I embark on my next self portrait.
