Building high end race motors for cars most builders use a stretch gauge for rod bolts and such for that reason. Obviously not possible for this tho.

It’s to let the bolt relax to accommodate for the preload you lose after the torque has been reached. Bolts lose up to 15% immediately then up to 5%.

I never believed in it but was helping this old timer he would hit end caps and head bolts with a dead blow after torque helps things seat I guess
