24/7 something is breaking on these vessels. Rusty fishing boats, old yachts, each one dysfunctional in its own way. And it is honestly pathetic that a bunch of civilians are sailing 2,400 km across the Mediterranean to deliver food to Gaza, when millions of tons of aid sit right on Gaza’s border, blocked by Israel, while the world’s governments look the other way. This should be the job for international navies, or even a billionaire’s superyacht. Instead, it is activists hacking things together, seasick and exhausted, trying to do the work that institutions refuse to do. It is frustrating. It is humiliating. But it is also inspiring. The biggest lesson I have learned here is simple: be the change you want to see in the world. If nobody is willing to break the siege of Gaza, then do it yourself. Even if it is messy and inefficient, it forces the world to look. It makes people ask: why is Gaza denied a port, an airport, access to food, water, medicine? Why is an entire population being subjected to ethnic cleansing, forced migration, genocide?
