We waited until the babies left the nest and then removed the nest and put wire up on the chimney, no more house sparrows!

In Germany there are dedicated animal rescue teams in the City or more often even the firefighters are there for animal rescue.

Let the birds raise their babies, and once they're gone get a cover for your chimney. No reason to harm them.

Be careful and check statutes in your state. In mine, songbirds have the right of way once they've nested.

Just leave the birds alone. They’ll be gone soon, as soon as they raise their babies. Then u can close the flue so they can’t come back.
