The Sinhalese Golden Age (1153 A.D. - 1186A.D.) occurred during the reign of Parakramabahu the Great. The foundation for this era was laid with bl*d through a 13 year-long civil war (1140 - 1153), which led to the unification of the country. Later years from around 1160 - 1180, occurred the kingdom's expansion and influence in overseas territories, with the first ever documented Sinhalese naval armada in history and the pinnacle of Sinhalese military strength. This era is also known for its advancements in architecture, trade and hydraulic ingenuity and renovation of Buddhist religious sites that were destroyed from previous south indian barbaric invasions. And for the first time in history the Sinhalese currency, 'Kahapana' was used as the official currency not just in Lanka but in the kingdom's south indian territories as well. Sinhalese Golden Age concluded with his death and none of his successors were able to maintain or follow the footsteps of the greatest ruler that reigned in Sinhalese history.
