Timegazer Bunny :
It also explains why stars die when they fuse iron. No energy to release from the fusion

Funny enough iron is the swing point, and fusing stars can’t make it past it. Heavier elements probably come from colliding stars!

El sr takuache :
Thermonuclear fission tops out on Fe. Stars don’t fission past this point because the energy to fuse is greater than what’s created.

But the main energy doesn’t come from binding energy it comes from conversion of matter to energy

could we theoretically take those new molecules produced with fusion and split them with fission? and keep recycling them forever?

Because they all want to be iron..

So in theory fusion would be even safer than fission because there wouldn’t be the the risk of radiation? 🤔

I see it has a maximum there but it also has an interesting false maximum at about 120, is there an explanation for that

to put simply, Iron is the lowest energy state, it releases energy to form iron, so when you fuse elements it's always towards iron
