Asking them what type of school would they want to learn in? What would they like to see change in our world? Finding out what gifts they hold and why they feel they are here on this planet. We believe, as parents and educators, that we should strive to raise children with a voice and for them to be heard. Cyan and Caiden Thomas are the next generation of global citizens. Born and raised in Dubai to a Lebanese mother and South African father, the siblings were exposed to many cultures and perspectives from a young age. At the time of this interview, Cyan had just turned twelve years old, while her sister, Caiden, is nine. Their family has since relocated to Lebanon, which has not always been a normal experience for anyone, let alone young children to endure. Civil unrest, economic collapse and a tragic explosion, that will forever be a stain on global history, are not the usual memories for children to have. The sisters met Terri Allen through their mother, and Terri, in turn, introduced mindfulness into their daily lives, enabling Caiden and Cyan to not just cope but flourish in spite of the usual growing pains and larger surrounding issues. It is a struggle to stay conscious of these techniques for anyone, but by including it as a part of their lives from a young age allows the sisters to feel more confident about their future.
