100% cotton is great for water color. I'm pretty sure you can use it for oils too, I know priming the canvas helps with that effect you mentioned

100% cotton is what most canvases are, linen is smoother& more expensive. Start dark and go lighter.

If you tape it to the board it it gives it a crisp finish at the end and frames reallly pretty! Also you can gesso it to give it a smoother texture!
