For the Celts, dense areas of nettles indicate the dwelling of fairies, and that the plant’s sting protects you from fairy mischief and other forms of black magic. They’ve also been used for their fibre and yarn and turned into clothes by many people throughout history. And like most edible plants, serve as both food and medicine. A fear of stinging nettles has been instilled in a lot of us since childhood, but it’s a great first plant to start building a relationship with because it’s infamous nature has made it so recognisable.
