To make a 757 competitive these days would require new fuselage, wing and engines. Essentially a new aircraft, that is same size as the old girl.

The 737-900 and the MAX 9 and 10 should not exist. They are trying to fill the role of the 757, which only the 757 can do.

100% no. They need a ground-up new narrowbody 737 replacement. Al-Li fuselage, carbon fibre wings, etc.

The 737 needs a complete overhaul (read: a complete new design/plane must come) cause of ENG ground clearence and disadvantages now. A320 is winning

if the 797 comes out, it will mostly be made from the 757 design. Many 757s were brought back into service due to demand and it's legendary.

Keep the fuselage the same maybe have it made of carbon composite material and newer fuel efficient engines and big displays in the cockpit

Yes, the A321NEO and 737MAX have both failed the fill in the 757s spot in todays airliner market, Boeing needs to update and reproduce the 757.
