not exactly the same but I seen a cummins ISM with stop engine light. only codes were low coolant, no circuit codes. was full

Any true cat guy should know the difference, sensor or wiring is always short to low, or short to high. Neither give a false reading to ecm

I have seen critical events caused by sensors but it’s easy to see 230 degree water temp when the truck is cold.

Critical events are triggered by certain events. And if it hasn’t changed critical events cannot be cleared without factory passwords.

a bad sensor will give either a voltage low or voltage high code. Not a critical event code

I had an oil pressure sending unit go out a few months ago. Oil pressure was erratic. Went from 0-120-60-120-0 with stop engine light coming on

As a mechanic, we have a way to verify weather the sensor is bad or not.. depending on the situation, warranty is good or bad

Engine over speed is logged as a critical event with no SEL but certainly voids warranty.

That’s why the ecm reads multiple points. It’s called redundancy. One fails another is going to still be reading.
