Sam’s does it too. They scan your receipt, then scan one item you purchased to verify that your receipt matches what you purchased. It’s silly

it’s mostly for their end to make sure their cashiers are correctly scanning items and helps with their inventory control

They’re checking to make sure you weren’t overcharged for certain items. I have been sent back multiple times and given back refunds.
