@drshazmamithani: Here are some tips and tricks to save you an ER visit with your child! Make sure to share this with a parent! 1. In an otherwise health child over the age of 3 months, a fever can last up to 5 days before you need to be worried. That being said, if your child isn’t acting themselves, isn’t drinking well, is very sleepy, or you’re worried, bring them in. Check out my pinned video below on fever for more info. 2. Many parents come in worried that their child has a high fever. Rest assured, the height of the fever doesn’t indicate how sick your child is, it’s more important to note how they’re acting and behaving. It’s also important to remember that fever medication may not bring the temperature to normal all the time, and that a fever is a healthy response that is helping your child’s body fight off an infection. Again, how they’re acting is more important to monitor. 3. Post-viral coughs can be annoying and last weeks after a cold. Check out my pinned video below on coughs for more information on how to manage this and what to look out for. 4. Most children don’t want to eat much when they’re sick. This is normal and nothing to worry about. It’s most important that they’re continuing to drink fluids. 5. Most ear infections are viral and can be managed with pain and fever medication. It’s OK to monitor at home for 48h before seeing your family doctor or pediatrician.
