So this trip had been a bit of a disaster, we had been camping in the desert for about a week and had spent the majority of that time trying to fix our cars. From the second we arrived the engine light had come on, we blew out 3 tires and there was the fowl stench of a dead mouse behind the dash. But that’s just how these trips are sometimes. We’d had a lot of bad weather too and this was the only wave that was really worth surfing. Most of the waves were ugly close outs but we were pretty desperate. This might have been my 3rd surf at this wave and I had barely made a take-off, so paddling into this one I had almost written myself off before even trying. I think I was almost just preparing for impact when I realised, I had actually stuck the take-off.
