One Of The Most Common Reasons Dogs Become Reactive…. … is because owners don’t recognise the signs their dog is under pressure and/or ignore this and the dog is left with no choice but to defend itself. When that happens because YOU left the dog NO choice, guess what the dog does more often and more frequently?? That’s right ! React and just like that your dog learns reactivity is what gets them out of the stress. Mila’s job is to be the first dog we use when we are working on social skills with clients dogs, but that doesn’t mean, I leave her to fend for herself, it means that in a bid to teach the dog who despite being friendly, to back off, I’m also advocating for my dog so she don’t have to. By advocating for Mila it allows me to put her in situations like this without worrying about her reacting or getting scared or freaking out. It means I can maintain a very social yet well mannerd dog that trusts me to keep her safe. Do not be afraid to step in and advocate for your dog, it’s what will build trust, tolerance and respect towards you, leave your dog to be bullied, don’t listen to your dog, you will at some point end up with a reactive dog and if your dog is like the one in the video, one that can’t read signs, if you don’t step in and stop your dog, it will ultimately one day, push the buttons of the wrong dog and likely get attacked. This is also a common reason why friendly dogs with no manners can become aggressive. You teach your dog, you advocate for your dog and you be the one who guides them.
