@outer_woods: How much does wood cost? Well as you might have guessed, it can vary WIDELY depending on what type of wood you buy and how much of it you use. There are so many species of wood that can be used to make hand crafted custom furniture. Some of our favorites and our go to’s include white oak, walnut, mahogany, red oak, pecan, zebra wood, teak, and pine. Believe me when I say that the difference in price between teak and pine is large. This this informational and educational video, I explain that price difference using a piece of lumber we can all imagine. A 2x4 piece of pine from Home Depot. That runs you about $2.65. If you take that same amount of wood in Walnut, it costs $43. If you do the same for Teak it costs $168. When we work with our clients to produce custom woodworking pieces for them, we help them navigate all these different species, their different prices, and the different physics and aesthetic characteristics you can expect with each one. It can be confusing and challenging to pick a wood species for a project, especially if you add in the next step that’s the infinite number of ways you can stain or finish each species to look a certain way.
