Being young, a woman, and chronically ill often means fighting twice as hard to be believed. Chan (@CHAN ) knows this fight all too well. After what should have been a normal COVID recovery, she faced terrifying medical symptoms—strokes, vision loss, and constant pain. Instead of help, she was told, “it’s just anxiety.” On this episode of The Medical Detectives, Chan opens up about the hidden emotional toll of being dismissed, the years of searching for answers, and the resilience it takes to keep pushing when the system fails you. This conversation is about patient advocacy, chronic illness, and women’s health, but above all, it’s about the strength it takes to survive. #invisibleillness #advocateforyourself #chronicillnessawareness #medicalstories #themedicaldetectives @Dr. Erin Nance 🇺🇸 @Glitterandlazers
Blood agar is a nutrient-rich culture medium commonly used in microbiology to grow fastidious organisms and to differentiate bacteria based on their hemolytic properties. It consists of a base, usually tryptic soy agar or nutrient agar, supplemented with about 5% sheep, horse, or human blood. Blood agar not only supports the growth of a wide range of microorganisms but also allows observation of hemolysis, the breakdown of red blood cells by bacterial enzymes. Depending on the type of hemolysis, colonies may produce clear zones around them (β-hemolysis), greenish discoloration (α-hemolysis), or no visible change (γ-hemolysis). This makes blood agar an essential tool in clinical diagnostics for identifying pathogens such as Streptococcus species and other clinically important bacteria. #tiktokzambia🇿🇲 #foryoupage
