@jakekocherhans: Here’s what to do if you have signs/symptoms of SIBO!! (small intestine bacterial overgrowth) 👇🏼 1️⃣ STEP ONE: get functional labs run. Here’s the truth, if you do have SIBO.. the overgrowth is only half the problem. Because the only reason it developed is because there was some other underlying dysfunction in your gut. So while getting rid of the overgrowth is a good start, if you don’t address the root cause of the issue, there’s a good chance it may come back. For that reason, there’s two tests I’d suggest running: a stool test like the Gut Zoomer, and the Trio Smart Breath Test. The Gut Zoomer will tell you if you have other things like Candida or H. Pylori that need to be addressed, as well as if you have dysbiosis, leaky gut, poor bile/enzyme production, etc.. The Trio Smart Breath Test will actually tell you if you have SIBO, and if so, how much, and what kind? This is all important info to have. 2️⃣ STEP TWO: SIBO eradication This is done in one of three ways.. ✔️Antibiotics - not my favorite, can be very expensive ✔️ Herbal Antimicrobials - takes twice as long but just as effective (my personal favorite) ✔️ Elemental Diet - this is different from something like a Low FODMAP diet.. it’s essentially where you consume a liquid formula of pre-digested nutrients that essentially starves out the bacterial overgrowth over a 2-3 week period (tastes bad and can be hard to stick to) Keep in mind that depending on the severity of your SIBO, it could require more than 1 round to fully bring down the overgrowth. 3️⃣ STEP THREE: address the root causes This is where you need to focus on improving diversity of your gut microbiome, healing leaky gut, and improving liver function & bile/enzyme/stomach acid production. This last step is CRUCIAL if you want to prevent it from coming back.
