What do you think??🤔 One of the weirdest comments I‘ll hear from guys in the gym and online is that they won’t use machines because they’re not “masculine”. Now as easy as it could be to just laugh off how ridiculous it is to apply gender to a piece of gym equipment, I think the broader “problem” I see in the gym is people underutilizing very effective pieces of gym equipment because we put free weight movements on a pedestal. Sure it’s weird for a guy to see using machines as emasculating, but i know a lot of people who might wrongly assume that machines are mainly for beginners and old people and free weights are more “hardcore”. Others maybe just haven’t thought about incorporating them in their programs, because so many other people in the gym aren’t using them. At the end of the day, cables, weights, and machines are just vectors of resistance, and they can all be effective in any training routine once they are programmed intelligently. While I think it’s pretty juvenile to make a blanket statement that any one of these is always better than the other in any circumstance, there are certain exercises that I believe are much more effectively done with cables/machines than with free weights for the purpose of building muscle. Examples: Cable chest flyes > dumbbel chest flyes Cable pullovers > Dumbbell pullovers Converging machine chest press > Barbell bench press Every tricep movement on cables ever > That’s just my two-cents. Let me know what you guys think. Apply for 1:1 coaching using the link in my bio 🫡 #workout #gymtips #fitnessmotivation #explore #workoutmotivation #fitnesstrainer #gymhelp #fitguys
