@patrickteahanofficial: Children growing up in abuse watch the adults. They can be incredibly ashamed of their parent's behavior in treating others in the community and their own family. While unable to name it at the time, I watched my alcoholic mother befriend people and then expect a fast rescue from them. Even strangers. People served a purpose to my mother, and she would cross boundaries using people. Other children can watch their parents be: aggressive, off socially, superior, miserable, manipulative, transactional, paranoid, etc. Some children will hold all the shame in such moments as how their dad treats your friends or neighbors. They hold it for themselves, the third party, and feel like they are an accomplice in the parent's behavior, but they are not. If we are selfless in our adulthood: people pleasing, more concerned with others, feel embarrassed for others when they don't, compensate, and navigate to prevent people from looking foolish, we are in our inner child still paying for someone else's shameful behavior. It's important to be able to name this if you resonate and get in touch with the anger that had to go underground and hold the shameless parent responsible for the mess that you had nothing to do with but was put in the middle of. #shame #shameless #selfless #senseofself #childhoodotrauma #toxicparent #cptsd #narcissisticparent #healing #accountability
