It’s not so often this happens these days, normally 95% of what I throw gets trimmed and fired, yet there’s always a few pieces made that I question as the process goes on. Either I’m uninspired by the form, as in it doesn’t do anything for me and I’m not excited to see it finished, or it plainly just doesn’t sit within my ‘aesthetic’. This is one of those vases and I’m happy I caught it before biscuit and glaze firing it.   The tall lip is something I’ve been doing for a while now, usually I throw these with a wider opening and on a shape with another flat plane in its shape, hence why this vase was chosen for destruction. Thankfully, not only do I get to see a useful cross-section, to check how even my throwing and trimming is, but clay like this is easily recyclable. I’ll place both sections above a heater, turning the stoneware body-dry, then I’ll simply soak them in water, the clay disintegrating in moments. As long as the material isn’t fired this can be done perpetually, which is one of best things about this craft, although you do actually have to spend time recycling… *looks at pug-mill in shopping basket*, soon.   #pottery #fail #blooperreel #handmade #qualitycontrol #ceramics #oddlysatisfying
