@domesticblisters: Replying to @notyournormalcat I do not agree with ABA therapy. Its also not something you will be able to entirely avoid as a parent. For this reason, while I respect the refrain of ABA is abuse as a rallying cry for autistics expressing their trauma, it is not a helpful phrase when speaking to parents. The reality is we cannot get away from the principles & interventions that have seeped into every corner of autism therapy. Instead of being frozen with the fear of encountering it we need to be educated and ready to engage with the professionals we interact with. We need to be able to identify specifics & suggest alternatives. Remember: every autism practicioner is ABA by default unless they have consciously deprogrammed their worldview. AND, believe it or not, you will find some practicioners who are willing to listen and change. You may not be able to entirely avoid it but you CAN get your kid the best help and support that is available. #strugglecare #mentalhealth #autism #aba

Have you looked at Pivotal Response Treatment? Naturalistic Developmental Behavioral Intervention, I believe can be covered. RCTs show promise.
