a split in MD roughly coincided with the rise of cell phones so for years I thought 410 was for landlines 443 was for cell phones

When we ran out of area codes in the uk they put a (1) in front of every code which then made 10x more numbers available

When I lived in LA county I had 213, 310, and 562 area codes. For context these can be just a mile apart.
