@twisted_clay: The dreaded reclaim! Honestly, as dreaded as it is, there is a surprising amount of clay that can be reworked into a usable state each cycle. I usually tell people that at least a 3rd of the clay you wedge up will end up in your reclaim. This is through trimming, clay stiffening from using it to secure your pots to the wheel, throwing water and of course pots that just don’t make the cut either because they aren’t up to par or had a flaw along the way. Even if you keep all your pieces, you will still find that your throwing water and trimmings produce a lot of clay. Once a potter realizes how much clay is in the reclaim it is something we just need to take seriously so there isn’t so much waste from throwing it away. Even though it came from the earth and isn’t harmful to put back into the earth, a lot of energy went into getting that clay out of the earth and into a workable state. I try not to waste that energy and keep the cycle going! #pottery #potterylife #potterytutorial #potterytutorials #SmallBusiness #ceramics #ceramic #reclaimclay #potteryreclaim #reclaimclayprocess
