@lovely.greens: NATURAL LAVENDER SOAP RECIPE 💜 Although I made this with lavender essential oil and flowers, it’s not lavender that gives this soap such a stunning color. It’s another plant called alkanet (Alkanna tinctoria). It’s not one I can grow here in damp, temperate Britain, but it grows wild across Greece, Turkey, the Balkans, Pakistan, and India and is common enough in the natural dyeing community. It has many dye uses, from fibers and cloth to food (Indian dishes) and soap. Usually, you can get a lovely medium-tone purple color soap with alkanet, but if you’re patient, you can get this dark purple, too. Like all dye plants, the strength of the color potential is dependent on the weather and health of the plant. However, if you steep alkanet in oil long enough and double-extract it, you can sometimes get dark, sensual hues. Interested in seeing the process?
