Serenity Rangel was supposed to celebrate her 19th birthday next month. Instead, her mother is preparing to say goodbye to her firstborn daughter. Serenity was just 18 years old. She had graduated from Nimitz High School last year and was attending community college, with so much of her life still ahead of her. Late Thursday night, October 8, Serenity was driving to her boyfriend’s home in Dallas when something went terribly wrong. According to police, she lost control of her vehicle along North Walton Walker Boulevard. Surveillance footage from a nearby business captured her car leaving the roadway and overturning multiple times. Serenity lost her life in the crash. Her mother, Noemi Rangel-Chacon, described a daughter who brought happiness into their home. She remembered calling Serenity her baby, even as she grew into a young woman. Family members say Serenity loved music, makeup, fashion, and spending time with the people closest to her. Now, instead of celebrating another birthday, they’re making funeral arrangements and trying to understand what happened that night. The crash remains under investigation. Authorities have not released a final determination of what caused Serenity to lose control. Her mother hopes sharing their family’s loss will remind other drivers how quickly everything can change on the road.
