@mattykjordan: Almost everyday, I put out a camera overnight to capture timelapses of the Aurora Australis while I’m sleeping. We have a beautifully dark area down by an area we call the “container line” where we stage our shipping containers. It’s away from the base’s lights and provides excellent viewing opportunities over the ice shelf. The walk back to base is guided by our floodlight, and in some cases, the brightness of a full moon. The moon is starting to disappear now though, so we’re relying on vision by artificial means. The official colour of our base is called Chelsea cucumber green, which will incidentally be the same colour that is used for the new base, thanks to a nationwide vote by the New Zealand Public.
