I grew up in Buenos Aires and drank boiled water my whole childhood for this reason. You can also add two drops of bleach per litter of water.

as for Ukraine. Odesa region takes water from Dnister (not Dnipro), so we did not expect cholera. Other sites also have alternative water sources.

I had cholera when I was 4 in Kwazulu Natal. Talk about broken systems! I had to go to a ‘blacks only’ hospital where a German nurse saved my life!
