Sometimes less is more. I heard someone say “The biggest thing I fear is my son asking me for something and I tell him, I can’t afford it” To me, I would happily say that to my son. Even if I can’t afford it, because if my son gets whatever he wants, then he becomes entitled and expects it and then eventually grows up to become ungrateful. Our aim as parents isn’t to give our children everything they want, but it’s to give them an upbringing that is good for them. To raise them and shape them to become humble and grateful servants to Allah and their parents. Sometimes saying no, is the best way to show them they can’t have whatever they want. And this will in turn help them appreciate the times when you say yes.
