HYDROPHOBIC SOIL 😱 Give this a like if you found it helpful! When soil becomes hydrophobic it basically repels water. Here are some signs you might have hydrophobic soil: - all water runs right out the drain holes - leaves stay curled/droopy even after watering - there is a gap between the soil & the pot - soil is hard and sounds hollow when you tap it HOW TO FIX IT: I personally don’t love removing all soil especially in the winter, so the way I remedy hydrophobic soil is to poke the soil with a chopstick or skewer then bottom AND top water at the same time. Set the pot in a dish of water and also water from the top, let it sit in the water for at least 20 minutes. I will then not let the soil go as dry as I did before. Most hydrophobic soil has a higher peat content, so come summer if I feel it’s really bad I’ll remove all old soil and repot with a fresh mix. Do you have a plant with hydrophobic soil?
