The fossil-bearing riverbank is publicly accessible, but it can become steep, slippery and muddy after rain. #3 Post Oak Creek — Sherman The creek’s Cretaceous gravel bars are best known for shark teeth, including the unusual shell-crushing teeth of Ptychodus. Fossil oysters, fish vertebrae and other marine remains also wash into the creek. Sherman has been developing plans for Shark Tooth Park, so check current access and parking conditions before visiting. #2 Mineral Wells Fossil Park — Mineral Wells This public collecting site contains Pennsylvanian fossils more than 300 million years old. Visitors must remain downstream from the park and stay outside the restricted dam and mitigation area. Always verify current access, weather and collecting rules before traveling.
