@coachrauve: The primary benefit of unilateral exercises is the ability to train both sides of the body equally. Unilateral movements are lifts done with, or on, one limb as opposed to bilateral movements which require both limbs (squat, bench, deadlift, etc.) It prevents over compensating with the dominant side, which helps to isolate and correct muscle imbalances. Studies have proven unilateral strength training forces your body to recruit more muscle fibers than bilateral resistance training. It requires much more effort for one limb, working by itself. Bilateral (compound movements) should still be the based of your program, but adding these will absolutely help develop new levels of strength.
